2 A singular noun names one person, place or thing.

3 Singular means only one!
one chest one girl one rug one parent one snack

4 A plural noun names more than one person, place, or thing
one friend two friends one game four games one kite three kites one dog many dogs

5 Plural means more than one!
five toys few papers many books lots of friends three birds several flowers

6 Add –s to form the plural of most singular nouns.
The cat slept on the floor. The cats slept on the floor. I found a turtle in the ditch. I found turtles in the ditch.

7 Singular Plural car cars sister sisters bike bikes school schools basketball basketballs

8 If the word ends with s, sh, ch, or x, add –es to make the word plural.
box boxes dress dresses watch watches bench benches dish dishes fox foxes

9 Let’s make singular nouns plural
We need our (book) for math. We need our books for math.

10 Two (pencil) need to be sharpen.
Two pencils need to be sharpen.

11 I read many (letter) from grandpa.
I read many letters from grandpa.

12 The man cleaned all the (bench).
The man cleaned all the benches.

13 My mom washed the (dish).
My mom washed my dishes.

14 My dad planted many (bush).
My dad planted many bushes.

15 I had to put away my (toy).
I had to put away my toys.

16 The teacher asked us to pick up all the (block).
The teacher asked us to pick up all the blocks.

A plural noun names more than one person, place, or thing. Add –s to form the plural of most singular nouns. Add –es to form the plural of nouns that end with s, sh, ch, or x.
