Fast facts The most common wildcat in North America. the bobcat is named for its short, bobbed tail. 17-23 inches tall. 25-41 inches long

Diet Rabbits and hares. Bobcats are also known to eat rodents, birds, bats and even adult deer.

Population Approximately 725,000 to 1,020,000 bobcats remain in the wild.

Range Bobcats were once found throughout most of North America. From northern Mexico to southern Canada.

Behavior Usually solitary and territorial animals, females never share. Male territories, however, tend to overlap. generally 25-30 square miles for males and about five square miles for females.

Threats In Mexico, bobcats are persecuted as sheep predators and are frequently killed by farmers.

How can you help Starting in 2004, Defenders has partnered with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Help bobcats and other wildlife by adopting an animal at an adoption center.
