4. Objective 1.3 Compare availability of Natural Resources now to that of a century ago. Great Dust Bowl: severe drought killed a large portion of the vegetation of Texas and Oklahoma. –Strong winds off of the Rockies blew the soil particles which served as a sand blaster and destroyed the remainder of the plants. This left the soil exposed to the wind to remove even more.

5. Forestry Service: Forestry Service was started to reduce soil erosion which was filling up navigation channels Drainage Ditches: to reduce flooding, ditches and streams are dragged to create deeper channels Water Quality: Quality has declined due to population growth, greater demands on water and increasing industrial use.

6. Water Quantity: Water table has steadily declined due to extensive agricultural, industrial and human consumption. Fossil Fuels: Steadily depleting with human dependency on fossil fuels growing.

7. Wildlife: Game has been over hunted. Populations of some species have dropped to all time lows. However, due to conservation management, educated sportsmen and gaming laws, some species are now present in greater numbers than ever before –Ducks and trout are two example in Arkansas
