Nick Ketchum

Brightness & Distance  38,000 times brighter than the sun  Absolute visual magnitude- Mv=-6.7  1,550 light-years away

Size  2536 times the solar radius (it could fill the entire orbit of Saturn)  It takes up enough space to pack almost 4.5 billion suns into itself.

Type of star Deep Red Giants are big and red, hence the name Deep red giants. Mu cephei is one of these.

Sequence  It has begun to fuse helium into carbon and might explode as a supernova

When and where to view  Best seen in August through January in the Northern Hemisphere  It is located in the Cepheus Constellation

Historical significance  "a very fine deep garnet colour, such as the periodical star ο Ceti,“ -William Herschel  In 1848, English astronomer John Russell Hind discovered that it was variable. This variability was quickly confirmed by German astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Argelander. Almost continual records of the star's variability have been maintained since 1881.
