Throw it away… You go to lunch at Hardee’s. You throw AWAY the left over stuff Where is away? Probably a landfill Does that/ can that affect you negatively in any way?

Solid Waste – any discarded material that is liquid or gas Junk mail, coffee grounds, paint cans, etc. Solid waste by Americans has doubled in recent decades Convenience of one time use products There is a worldwide increase in waste each year Solid Waste

2 types of waste Biodegradable Can be broken down by living things into simpler chemicals that can be consumed by living things Ex. Newspapers, cotton fiber, leather, etc Non-biodegradable Do not break down over time Ex. Plastics, styrofoam, etc.

What we throw away 70% of solid waste is from manufacturing and mining About 2 percent of solid waste is municipal solid waste Trash produced by households and businesses Paper, plastics, metal, and glass Which is about 200 million tons each year
