4 JAN 1919 NATIONAL ELECTIONS Ebert’s party are voted as the largest single party in Germany FEB 1919 FOUNDATION OF THE WEIMAR REPUBLIC The new parliament meets at Weimar, a town in southern Germany to draw up the new constitution. Ebert is elected as the first president of the Weimar Republic
