7. Model UN simulation on Global Health Learning objectives: - to simulate the work of the United Nations through a model UN debate - to present your country’s position and negotiate solutions to improve global health You will be playing the important role of the United Nations World Health Organization. You will be role playing your country with a partner, trying to improve world health. This will involve discussion, debate, public speaking and representing your country’s view. You will need your country research and your position paper. Good luck!! Now debate the different viewpoints that have been put forward. If you want to speak raise your placard and your teacher will give you 30 seconds to state your point. If your country needs support in developing health care or fighting disease, make sure you make it known! Make ‘blocs’ or small groups of countries, with whom you agree on the issue. Together you are going to create a resolution. In your ‘bloc’ ’write down 5 actions the UN need to take to improve world health. Make sure you are specific and realistic in your solutions! 1. Presenting your positions to the rest of the class! 2. Debate the issues based on all the country positions 3. Create solutions to improve the problems! You will now have 1 minute to present your country’s position to the rest of the class. Stand up and speak clearly. Don’t say “I” or ‘we’ in your speech - you are delegates from member states - address the Security Council as for example “the USA believes that….” or “The delegation of Japan feels that… ”This makes it more formal and more fun!
