3 COFUND Increasing Marie Curie opportunities for researchers by co-funding regional, national and international programmes Over 175 co-funded programmes funded via FP7 All are fellowships programmes (post-PhD researchers or equivalent) 8 in Ireland: majority are run by funding agencies except RCSI, UCD and DOCTRID (intellectual disability charity) Commission paid for 40% of the programme cost

Award Holder Programme EU Contribution (40%) National Contribution (60%) University College Dublin UCD ENERGY-21 €1.8M €2.8M UCD Energy 21 Built on one of UCD’s 4 research themes: Earth Sciences, Energy and the Environment UCD will award 21 fellowships for Experienced Researchers to work at UCD – all fellowships include a secondment outside Ireland Marie Curie COFUND award provides 40% co-funding from the Commission 60% own funding came from a pool of funds earmarked for the UCD Energy Institute – mix of sources including philanthropic and industry funding

5 COFUND in Horizon 2020 Horizon 2020 will offer co-funding for:
Doctoral Training/Scholarship programmes Post-doctoral and/or Senior Fellowship programmes (post-PhD or equivalent) Staff exchange programmes (post 2015) Co-funding rate is 45% (+ 5%) If you have funding for 5 postdocs/PhD students, you can apply to turn that into funding for 10! 6 Living & Mobility Allowance (a)
EU Contribution Depends on whether the researcher is paid a salary (preferred if possible), or a stipend Categories of eligible costs Marie Skłodowska-Curie action Costs of researchers  PER MONTH Institutional costs Living & Mobility Allowance (a) Management costs (b) STIPEND ESR (Student): ER (Researcher): 325 SALARY ESR: 1855 ER: 2625 COFUND only co-finances the Living+Mobility Allowance and the Management Costs – all other costs (e.g. research, travel, family allowance, indirect costs (overheads) must be financed from own budget

7 Minimum Remuneration Choose your own funding rates, but EC has specified minimum rates for Living & Mobility Allowances (70% of the MSCA rates for the other Actions) ESR (Student) PER MONTH ER (Researcher) Stipend Salary €2597 €3675
