ONLINE DISSERTATION HELP METHODOLOGY SECTION www.dissertationmanageronline.com www.dissertationmanageronline.com

D I S S E R T A T I O N M E T H O D O L O G Y S E C T I O N SUGGESTIONS SLIDE 1

M E T H O D O L O G Y Once you have defined the purpose of your study i.e. aim, objectives, question, hypothesis after a thorough literature research you should be ready to design your research in detail. SLIDE 2

METHODOLOGY Research design is an action plan for getting you from the beginning to the end of your dissertation. Should start with a short introduction and end with a fairly short summary. Express this in an “academic” manner SLIDE 3

METHODOLOGY The objective:- Explain *What you did *Why you did it *How you did it *When you did it Create a framework to make it clear that you know all about research approaches SLIDE 4

M E T H O D O L O G Y Linking O b j e c t i v e s to the Questionnaire Questions WITH Diagram BOX Questionnaire questions ? relate to WHICH Objectives? SLIDE 5

METHODOLOGY Suggested Outline – you need to check your dissertation handbook before using this outline 3.1 Introduction Overview of section 3.2. Methods advantages and disadvantages 3.2.1Qualitative 3.2.2 Quantitative 3.2.3 Mixed 3.3 Research Design chosen and reasons 3.4 Methods To Select A Sample. 3.5 Primary research context 3.5.1 Geographical location/ time period – make various key dates explicit. 3.5.2 Participants 3.6. Questionnaire Design and the method of analysis 3.6.1Proposed Methods to Collect and Analyse Research data 3.6.2 Linking of Objectives /Questionnaire Questions 3.7 Proposed Methodology Limitations 3.8 Ethics 3.9 Conclusion SLIDE 6

METHODOLOGY 1.Incorporate a section AT beginning of the chapter setting out your understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of research. You might like to incorporate the “research onion” diagram from Saunders (this is on page 108 of the 2009 edition), and you can go on to explain how your own study fits into context/ this bigger picture. 2.You need to make the various key dates explicit. 3.It would also be good if you could provide details of the questions that you used for your pilot study, and the revised list of questions (or topics) which you used for the interviews themselves. 4. You should also demonstrate that you took reasonable precautions to ensure that your respondents would be broadly representative of the wider population that they are supposed to represe nt. SLIDE 8

METHODOLOGY SECTION THIS SECTION DOES NOT STAND ALONE BUT MUST FIT INTO THE OVERALL PLAN OF YOUR DISSERTATION THE AIM,OBJECTIVES,QUESTION,HYPOTHESIS IN YOUR INTRODUCTION IS THE BACKBONE OF YOUR WHOLE DISSERTATION THEREFORE IF YOU HAVE CARRIED OUT PRIMARY RESEARCH SUCH AS A QUESTIONNAIRE YOU COULD INCLUDE for example a BOX DIAGRAM SHOWING THE LINK BETWEEN THE OBJECTIVES AND THE QUESTIONNAIRE QUESTIONS IN THIS SECTION SLIDE 9

Your university should have given you a Dissertation handbook in relation to the structure and content of your dissertation. If you decide to use the outline from this presentation you should check that it complies with the university handbook and the information your dissertation supervisor has given you
