2. Work Experience Aims  A qualification! You will achieve a Personal Development unit called Self and Work at N4 or N5.  You will learn some job seeking skills and send a perfect letter and application form to your work experience employer  You will get the chance to work alongside adults and do “real” work  Your confidence levels will soar!

3. When? Your placement week is: Monday 23 rd June – Friday 27 th June 2014 The hours you do will be up to your employer and may be more (or fewer*) than school hours No fewer than 21 hours though…

4. How Do I find a Placement?  Use the database ….if you don’t like to jobs on the database, or don’t get your choice…..  Find your own

5. Using the database….  The database is an online selection of placements available to you.  There are around 50 jobs.  Between 3 – 10 March, you will be able to browse and make selections.  You will find out which job you have been given the following week

6. Finding your own placement  If you want to organise your own placement you will have to complete paperwork.  Forms will be available from week beginning March 10 th  Hand your form to the employer who has agreed to take you.  Return the completed form to you SE teacher by 22nd April.

7. Form, what form? The self found form is vital. No-one will be able to go on placement without having returned a signed form from their employer. And the deadline date? Tuesday April 22nd th 2014.

8. What happens next? Your placement will then be checked for health and safety – this can take up to 8 weeks. When your placement passes the checks, you will receive a job card to take home.

9. Not recommended! Don't use your part time job as a work experience placement – it doesn't count as a new experience. Don't work in the same office/shop etc as one of your parents or carers – relatives shouldn't be your employer or supervisor Very small firms with no other employees are unlikely to have the correct insurance. Hazardous jobs will not pass the checks.

10. Database or Self Found???? Database  Easy – just a few clicks and very little paperwork  Only 50 places so may not get the placement you want.  Already H&S checked Self found  You get the placement you want  Pupil has to be responsible for paperwork  Placement may not pass the H&S checks

11. Summary Week beginning March 3 rd – access to the database March 3 rd to 10 th – selections from the database Week beginning March 17 th – places allocated from the database. Self found forms will be available from March 10 th Self found forms are due back by April 22 nd.

12. One last thing… Do not try to “self find” jobs from the database.
