2 Workforce Development & Recruitment SCA Training Programme update Core, specialist and management short courses 2011-12: 139 courses with 2,143 places 2012-13: 123 courses with 1,968 places Cost per place has decreased from £56 to £54 (includes planning & commissioning, trainers, venues, refreshments, admin, IT, quality assurance, evaluation)

5 Recruitment DNAs and advance cancellations for SCA training courses have doubled since June Surrey Connects Sept 2012: particular demand for care assistants and home carers across most areas in Surrey Recent feedback from providers to CWi indicates financial squeeze is impacting on retention and ability to maintain high quality workforce development

6 Workforce Challenges - CWi There is a need for clear direction to align policy developments with practice, especially in relation to personalisation. Workers need a breadth of knowledge and flexibility to meet the changing demands of people who use social care services, especially people with complex needs. Supervision and effective support for workers is increasingly challenging with a dispersed workforce. Maintaining high-quality workforce development programmes requires creative approaches in the light of available funding.
