2 *SETTING* Place- in the country (we know this because the mention of farmland) Time- early spring (we know this because they mentioned they were waiting for the flowers to bloom, also the weather is rainy) Weather conditions- rainy Social conditions- the characters are middle class Mood or atmosphere- the main character is wanting revenge and is jealous which doesn’t create a very happy or cheerful mood

3 *INTRODUCTION* Introduction:
Simon saw Jim Dickie going back the road in hopes that he would meet up with Jim on his return home. Simon was introduced in the story cleaning his rifle and the author explained that Simon showed hatred toward Jim Dickie saying he deserved what he had coming to him. 4 *RISING ACTION* Rising action:
Simon is digging in the field when he heard someone coming, so he turned around and it was Jim Dickie returning from the post office. Introduction Rising Action Climax Falling Action Dénouement

5 *CLIMAX* Climax: Simon shot Jim Dickie because he wanted revenge on Jim for taking the farm that he was negotiating to buy, and also for taking Simons girl. Introduction Rising Action Climax Falling Action Dénouement

6 *FALLING ACTION* Falling action:
Simon buried Jim along with his rifle and the package of poppies that Jim had picked up at the store in town. Simon was approached by the police who asked if Simon had seen Jim recently. Simon told them the last he saw him was when he was passing by coming home from the post office. Introduction Rising Action Climax Falling Action Dénouement

7 *CONCLUSION* Dénouement/ conclusion:
The police chief/ post office worker knew that Jim had picked up the package containing the poppies before he went missing, so he waited and than when the poppies had sprouted in Simons field then they knew it was Simon, and they had him arrested. 8 *CONFICT* Conflict: Man V.S. Man- when Simon killed Jim
*CHARACTER/POINT OF VIEW* Conflict: Man V.S. Man- when Simon killed Jim Man V.S. Self- Simon was probably having an internal struggle on weather or not to kill Jim Characters: -Simon Lasher -Jim Dickie -Hank Wheeler Point of view: The author is narrating the story.
