Government Canada is a parliamentary democracy. This means that people vote for people from different regions vote on people from parties to represent them. The party’s leader with the most representatives becomes Prime Minister. The main parties are the the Progressive Conservatives, the Liberals, the NDP, the Canadian Alliance. and the Bloc-Quebec-lois. Some famous PMs are. John.A.McDonald, the first. Wilfred Laurier, the first multi-term Liberal PM. Robert Borden. PM for World War 1. Mackenzie King, PM for World War 1. Pierre Treadau, the most famous. Brian Mulroony and Jean Cretien.

Conservative Party of Canada The Conservatives are a middle right wing party. This means they believe that low taxes are good, but not to low. They have been very popular in recent years, but they have had trouble. After WWI people thought the government was cheating them out of the economy. They formed two big parties; The UFO (The United Farmers of Ontario.) and the Progressive party. The UFO became provincial leaders, and the Progressives almost won the federal election. An agreement was reached. The Progressives joined the Conservatives.. Recently the Alliance and the Conservatives joined. Tory provinces; N.S., N.B., P.E.I., and Alberta.
5
Liberals The Liberals are a slight left wing party this means they believe in slightly high taxes. They have a large majority in parliament, so they can run the country as they please. We hope Paul Martin will be good. Liberal provinces; B.C., Ontario, Quebec, and N.F. The Liberals first PM was Alexander Mackenzie (1873-1878.)
6
NDP The NDP think a lot of stuff should be state run; like health and auto insurance. This will require a lot of taxes. Which we will have to pay. The NDP provinces are Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
7
Blois- Quebecois The Blois-Quebecois might want to separate from Canada. They do not control any provinces but, are powerful federally.
