1 TITLE District 5470 Rotary Foundation Seminar District Grants Chris Unfug May 3, 2014

2 District Grants What are district grants? District grants fund smaller, short-term activities that address needs in both your local community and communities worldwide. Each district gets to choose which activities it will fund with these grants. You can use district grants to fund a variety of activities which will be determined by the District Grant Committee, including: Humanitarian projects, disaster recovery efforts, scholarships for any level, length of time, location, or area of study Districts must be qualified before they can administer district grants.

3 District Grants 1.All District Grant requests for initial consideration need to be submitted to the District 5470 District Grant chair by June 15, 2014. A second offering is likely in October 2.Must support the MISSION of TRF: “The mission of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.” 3. No minimum budget 4. Short term impact- can be local or international 5. Can support scholars for any level of study locally or internationally- this will be a committee decision. 6. Active Rotarian involvement 7. Adheres to grant terms and conditions. Club is financially responsible to see project is completed or money will have to be returned to RI

4 District Grants Include active Rotarian participation Adhere to stewardship guidelines Demonstrate cultural sensitivity Activities align with Foundation’s mission

5 District Grants: Certification All Clubs must be certified annually by attending an in-person district provided training The club president and president elect (or club officer) must sign an MOU, send to GG chair District and Clubs must have a financial plan. All documents supporting grants must be retained All cash receipts must be kept for 5 years The District must have a financial review of all accounts annually At this time, club certification cannot be done on line

6 District Grants There is no minimum award amount for a District grant, regardless of activity type. The District Fund award amount for 2014-2015 will be $4,500 per club. If the budget allows, the District will attempt to match dollar for dollar the clubs contribution. Grants for multiple club projects: * 2 Clubs add $1,000 to individual Club Maximum 3 Clubs add $2,000 to individual Club Maximum

7 District Grants: Examples $10,000 for solar lights on the Reservation $2,500 to support immunization program $6,000 to provide medical equipment in Costa Rica $6,000 to “Raising a Reader” education program $2,500 Kids health fair $3,800 for School security system $2,000 Imagination Library (promote young readers) Potential International Grants with successful past experience *These grant amounts represent the club and District contributions combined.

8 District Grants: Lessons Learned Grants can be accepted during the Rotary year. Funding for the District account timing. Timing for expenses to be eligible for matching funds. –No match for expenditures before RI approval of District spending plan. Training needs to be consistent across the District Need a bigger committee and better communication. Better use of the District website. Applications need to be editable files (Word docs.)
