Short info about RYCK - a new way of collecting - Topics and contents December, 14th 2011 Be Hyperion Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion!
2
RYCK “Get payed for your waste!” Initiative from a waste collector Avalex Area Delft, Pijnacker, Rijswijk (short to The Hague) Pilot area: Pijnacker Nootdorp – Approx 50.000 inhabitants – Approx 20.000 objects Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
3
Reasons for RYCK Reasons for the project: – Still too much plastics, papers, etc in the residual waste – Waste collection of bins and public containers is expensive – New view on waste collection Positive incentive to citizens – ‘You sort your waste well, you get an incentive’ Not a negative signal – ‘You sort your waste not well, we punish you’ Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
4
Pilot project Some side info: Pijnacker-Nootdorp 50.000 inhabitants 20.000 objects Public systems (underground) for: – Paper – Plastic – Clothes – Glass Citizens have bins for organic and residual waste Period: september 2011 – march 2012 Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
5
Keys for RYCK Away from the standard waste collection ideas Collection areas/porta cabins should be clean, nice looking, friendly Operators should wear clothes in style RYCK Enough capacity for storing fractions Selected Fractions: – Paper – Plastic (packaging) – Clothes – Small electric equipment Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
6
Keys for RYCK Pyramid idea – Citizens will collect waste at their neighbours who are not joining the concept. Neighbours inform and activate other neigbours, etc Young people – Extra income High quality of waste – Optimal sorting – Waste streams are of high quality Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
7
The pilot 6 sites at Pijnacker Nootdorp Rollerbench concept for fast throughput – Customs at airports Central database – PHP programmed – All data immediately available – E-mails directly send after visit or registration Underground containers with compactor 4 waste streams: – PaperCitizen gets: € 0,05 per kg – PlasticCitizen gets: € 0,25 per kg – TextilesCitizen gets: € 0,25 per kg – Small electricsCitizen gets: € 0,05 per kg Payment per bank when the saved value > € 10,00 Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
8
Porta-cabins Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
9
Porta cabins – external link Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion Underground systems (5 m3 with compactor) are connected with a chute to the internal openings
10
Interior Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
11
Chipcards - Ryckaart Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! EM4102 Barcode All cards are in whitelist (security) Full colour printing Be Hyperion
12
Software – participants portal Www.ryck.nl – Participants – First time registration Printing of registration for with barcode – Later the participants can check their account Username and password – Information about the concept – On line update of total savings and kilogrammes Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
13
Software – Porta cabin Touch screen operated Two screens – Visitor/participant – Operator After scanning barcode registration form the participant gets his chipcard – Automatically sending of username and password Easy use – Chipcard -> Fraction -> weight -> Confirmation Built in checks (maximum weights of fraction, whitelist,) Scale must be in rest before weight is accepted Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
14
Some screen shots Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
15
Administrator module Reports Statistics Data of participants Exportfunctions (Excell) Separation between this software and banking software Every week generation of paytable > 10 euro – No cash ! Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
16
Lots of PR Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion -20.00 hr News / national TV (several times -National and local newspapers
17
After 6 months More than 1.000.000 KG collected More than 6.000 active members High quality waste streams (not polluted) Lots of interest – Cities (Rotterdam, Haarlem, Zoetermeer, etc.) – Waste collectors (Van Gansewinkel, Netwerk, etc) Side effects: – Employments – Extras for people with minor income – Positive public imago Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
18
After 6 months Fits very well in a redevance incentive system (pollutor pays concept) Better separation waste Next steps – Moving away from public waste collection to a bring system (cost advantage for collector) – Working on Software version 2.0 Hardware version 2.0 Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
19
Part of Be Hyperion The Heart Supply of – All the hardware, including, weighing, RFID and barcodesystem – Chipcards Developing and programming – Participants interface – Software for registration visitors and their waste disposal – Administrator module – E-mail confirmation system Cash module / banking module Integration of weighing into software Summarized: the heart of the system! Observe! Note! Analyze! Realize! Be Hyperion! Be Hyperion
