Mole to Mole Conversions
3
Last semester you learned to balance chemical equations. The coefficients in a balanced equation show molar ratios A molar ratio is the ratio of moles of one substance to moles of another substance in a balanced chemical equation.
4
For example: Balance the following equation ___HCl + ___Ba(OH) 2 ___H 2 O + ___BaCl 2 2HCl + 1Ba(OH) 2 2H 2 O + 1BaCl 2 This equation is saying: 2 moles of HCl reacts with 1 mole of Ba(OH) 2 to form 2 moles of H 2 O and 1 mole of BaCl 2. Example mole ratio: 2 mole HCl = 2 mol H 2 O

Based on a balanced chemical reaction, you can predict how many moles of a compound will be produced in a chemical reaction. Steps for Mole to Mole Conversions: 1. Balance the equation 2. Remember, the coefficients are a ratio of moles. Find the mole ratio for what your starting in and what youre finishing in. 3. Use dimensional analysis to convert to you new unit. Your conversion will be the mole ratio.
