Margaret Mead “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

How can we make an important contribution to our community through young children? Our Big Question:
4
What Makes A Good Environmentalist?
5
We all… Show leadership qualities at school and in the community by participating in Key Club and other volunteer activities. Recycle and reuse in our own homes and at school. Consciously sort through trash to separate things that can be reduced, reused, and recycled.

Clean Up Your Act?
7
Why is this important to us? We think that people in younger generations need to know what happens when the world and its wonderful resources are wasted. We think that having them start early will help them value the earth, animals, and environment more. The environmental effects of littering are only going to become worse if people are not educated in preserving the earth.
8
Did You Know… 33% of litter is fast food waste. Most common litter offenders - Men between 18-34 years. Scavengers, such as rats are drawn to lots of litter. Making new cans from used cans uses 75 percent less energy than making a can from virgin materials. Research shows that 40% of litter is accidental Many smokers blame their littering behavior on a lack of well-placed bins for cigarette butts
9
Pullen Presentation We are at Pullen Elementary in Ms. Cantrell’s Kindergarten class. They watched a presentation made by us to show effects of littering and trash on the earth.
10
How Did They React?
11
They loved the videos and the pictures. Not as excited about all the words. Very eager to do the scavenger hunt on the following day. Presentation

Scavenger Hunt Day On this day we went outside on the play ground and picked up litter and trash. All the kids were excited to do something new. Gloves were used to keep every ones hands clean.
15
Response?
16
They were delighted about the fact that they were the only class to have the privilege to go outside to help. They loved that they got to clean up. Many comments were said about the playground looking better and cleaner. They also got a treat if they worked hard and put in a good effort. Scavenger Hunt

Big Question: How can we make an important contribution to our community through young children? REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE We think that starting to teach the children as early as kindergarten will help them learn the importance of cleaning up our earth. We think that teaching what we have previously learned to these kids will help them to be better environmentalists.
