DOS-the beginning Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS) Originally a project with IBM Based on the Quick and Dirty Operating System (QDOS) written by Tim Paterson of Seattle Computer Products Which was based on the Control Program for Microcomputers (CP/M) written by Gary Kildall of Digital Research. MS-DOS was written by Microsoft, and them Bill Gates convinced IBM to let MS retain the rights and Gates became a millionaire selling MS-DOS

Then Came the GUI Xerox was actually the first company to make a GUI (that’s Graphical User Interface) Steve Jobs went to Xerox and saw the Alto (the first GUI computer) Then Jobs built the Lisa computer, the first consumer computer with a GUI. This prompted Microsoft to produce the Windows OS. The first version of which was not an OS on it’s own but rather an extension of MS-DOS.

The difference Nowadays Windows is becoming more like Mac and Mac is becoming more like Windows, you see the circle, no? The largest step in this direction is Windows 7, MS is making windows lighter (faster) and more user-friendly The point is that the different OS’s are becoming more and more like each other

VS WindowsMacOS Use any hardware NFTS, not important to most but a major pain for people who use multiple OS’s Must get software you want EXE installs Use Apple hardware HFS, similar problem to NFTS Has most utilities bundled, third party software is used less frequently Bundle Installs
