2 St. Patrick Patrick was born in England and made a slave at 16 of age. He was brought to Ireland to work as a shepherd. He always thought of how he could escape. Eventually he was able to get on a boat going to France. In France he met a bishop and learned about Christianity. When he became a priest, he returned to Ireland to teach the people about his new religion. Teresa Reen Jan. 2010 East Side Adult Ed

3 St. Patrick There are many legends about Patrick. One tells that he sent all the snakes out of Ireland. Another is that he taught about the Trinity using a shamrock. It is also said that he created a huge fire to take power from the king of Ireland. We don’t know which ones are true. Teresa Reen Jan. 2010 East Side Adult Ed

4 St. Patrick It is true that shamrocks grow only in Ireland. And they are 3-leaved and 1 stemmed. Maybe it’s true that he used them to teach how three could be one. 1 stem 3 leaves Teresa Reen Jan. 2010 East Side Adult Ed

8 St. Patrick Was a slave to the king of Ireland. Escaped to France & learned about Christianity. Brought Christianity to Ireland. Used the shamrock to teach about the Trinity. Built many churches all over Ireland. Lived in Ireland for the rest of his life. Is the patron saint of Ireland.

9 St. Patrick’s Day In Ireland St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday. There is a parade in most towns and cities. It is also a religious holiday. People go to church on St. Patrick’s Day.
