Sampling Sampled a file from an on-line/on-board source Edited that file by Deleting a section of the original file Added a Fade-in section Added a Fade-out section “Normalised” part of the file i.e. controlled the amplitude of another section of the file

Captured Streaming Audio Captured audio source from a Streaming Video (mostly YouTube) source Played the file Edited the file in the same way as sampled file Saved the file as different file type e.g. mp3 file Homework Update Digital Media Project Template with any new sources you would add using this new knowledge and send this to me by Friday 23 rd March.

Assessment Outcomes 2, 3 & 4 Russell Taylor

REVIEW OF ASSESSMENT OUTCOME 1 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of digital media elements. What You Had to Show in a Multiple Choice Question Set: (a) Identify file formats for different media elements. (b) Describe properties of file formats. (c) Describe different types of compression. (d) Describe copyright issues relating to media elements.

Next Assessments are “OPEN BOOK” Candidates will have access to notes, reference materials and on-line help for these assessments – but not each other’s work! Candidates will have to demonstrate the successful completion and recording of the set of tasks. This evidence will be gathered through a set of consecutive tasks (treated as a single extended task) resulting in a set of media elements being incorporated into a multimedia application

TESTING YOUR KNOWLEDGE For each Assessment Outcome there will be an opportunity for a run-through before the actual Assessment. Time is short with only 5 Mondays between now and the end of the course! To be successful: Your work-rate has to be good Absences have to be avoided Your concentration level has to be at its best! Additional study time will have to be used

ASSESSMENT OUTCOME 2 Source, capture and store a range of media elements. What You Have To Do (a) Acquire a range of media elements from legitimate sources. (b) Capture media elements using appropriate devices. (c) Store files on appropriate media.

ASSESSMENT OUTCOME 3 Create, edit and manipulate digital media elements using software tools. What You Have To Do (a) Create a range of media elements. (b) Edit a range of media elements. (c) Manipulate a range of media elements. (d) Select and use appropriate file formats for the storage of media elements.

ASSESSMENT OUTCOME 4 Integrate digital media elements into a multimedia application. What You Have To Do (a) Select and use appropriate file formats for the media elements that match the multimedia application. (b) Acknowledge copyright for media elements. (c) Integrate media elements into a multimedia application. (d) Run the multimedia application.

Details Outcome 2: Source one of each of the following from legitimate sources, eg audio clip, video clip, graphic and animation Capture one short audio clip of 30 to 60 seconds, one video clip and one image using appropriate devices, e.g. digital video camera, video capture card, digital camera, scanner, mobile phone, microphone, etc Use appropriate software tools to create a short video clip of approximately 30 seconds including a midi sound file, a 2d animation, a bitmap and a vector graphic

Details Details! Outcome 3: Use appropriate software tools to edit (e.g. cut, copy, paste, trim) one of each of the following, i.e. audio clip, video clip and bitmap. Use appropriate software tools to manipulate one of each of the following: audio clip, video clip, 2d animation, bitmap and vector graphic: e.g. scale, skew, rotate, use effects and filters Select and use appropriate file formats for the editable and published versions of all media elements Store files on appropriate media.

Details Details Details!! Outcome 4: Integrate into a multimedia application at least one instance of each of the following media elements: audio clip, video clip, animation, bitmap graphic and vector graphic (SVG Type) (typical multimedia applications being Presentation, Web Authoring, and Multimedia Authoring applications) Run the multimedia application for the Assessor ensuring error- free playback Acknowledge copyright for all media elements used in the multimedia application. End

Microsoft Movie Maker (in Microsoft’s Own Words)! Windows Movie Maker makes home movies amazingly fun. With Movie Maker you can create, edit, and share your home movies right on your computer. Build your movie with a few simple drag-and-drops. Delete bad shots and include only the best scenes. Then share your movie via the Web, e-mail, or CD. Using third-party software (like Sony Vegas) you can even take movies you've made and turn them into DVDs. You can also save your movie back to the video tape in your camera to play back on a TV or on the camera itself.

Demonstration

Exercise Open Microsoft Movie Maker Explore the interface – checking out the Menu options Look at the Help section for guidance on use Using your samples from your Digital Media Project file Import these into Movie Maker Add these to the Storyboard Add some Transitions Add a Title and Credits elements
