High school English club manages the speech contest for the local middle schools. The high school students will moderate and give announcements to manage the speech contest. It takes a lot of preparation and planning, but it is a big deal for the students and practicing is absolutely necessary. HS ALTs will need to go through each line with their English club students to make sure they have correct pronunciation of their announcements.

Volunteer/selected middle school students will participate in a speech contest. They will have to fully memorize their story and recall it on stage. They are judged on pronunciation, memorization and presentation.
15
As a high school ALT, you will most likely be asked to judge this contest. As a middle school ALT, it will be your job to practice the speeches with your students. Every school is different, some allocate time for preparation, some require you to meet after school with your speech contestant students.

The Eiken exam is a test that evaluates English skill. High school students study for and take the Eiken exam to help them get into a university. Some students may ask you to help them study. You can give them a mock verbal interview test. A JTE teach you how to give the practice interview.

The EIKEN grades are given in two stages. The first stage is a paper- and-pencil test that evaluates reading, listening, and writing ability. The second stage is a speaking test in the format of a face-to-face interview. An examinee must pass both stages of a grade in order to receive certification. The second stage is not given for the two beginner levels, Grades 4 and 5.
