POSITION The best position for starting your meditation practice is sitting in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. If you are more comfortable, you can go straight to the meditation pose, which is with your legs crossed on the floor. In both cases, keep your spine and head straight so that the energy to your chakras can flow easily. www.balance4life.com.au

BREATHE Take 3 deep belly breaths – in through the nose and out through the mouth. As you breathe in, push your belly out. As you breathe out, pull your belly towards your spine. Keep breathing in this way, slow and rhythmically. www.balance4life.com.au

STILLING THE MIND This takes a little practice, but ask your subconscious mind to be still and silent for between 2 to 10 minutes. As little as 5 minutes meditation a day will have benefits and you can slowly build up your practice to 10 minutes, then 20 and so on. Counting the breaths helps to still the mind. inhale – exhale = 1 inhale - exhale = 2 inhale - exhale = 3 Let your mind become still and focus on the breath. www.balance4life.com.au
