Authentic Materials › Resources, both written and oral, created by native speakers of the target language for native speakers of the target language. › Items not created or edited expressly for language learners › (Nunan and Miller, 1995).

Authentic writing is …. “Defined as writing on topics of one’s choice, which can take the form of a personal narrative or story.” (Duke, Purcell-Gates, Hall & Tower, 2008)

Checkpoint A is not intended to fully develop linguistic proficiency or grammatical accuracy. It is an introductory-level curriculum that lays the groundwork for future studies. The expected linguistic growth can be demonstrated over time. It is hoped that this document, with its focus on Checkpoint A instruction, will be used in connection with the syllabus and the learning standards.
