5. People are cutting down the rainforests in pursuit of three major resources…

7. 2. Lumber for paper and other wood products

8. 3. Land for livestock pastures

9. In the current economy, people obviously have a need for all of these resources

10. But almost all experts agree that, over time, we will suffer much more from the destruction of the rainforests than we will benefit

11. Why do scientists say it is vital that rainforests continue to exist?

12. 40% of the world’s oxygen is produced in rainforests

13. Scientists estimate more than half the world’s animal and plant population live in rainforests

14. About ¼ of all the medicines we use come from rainforest plants

15. More than 1,400 varieties of tropical plants are thought to be potential cures for cancers such as AID’s and other diseases

31. Traveling.. Petrol is made from oil and comes from below the ground, this can cause the destruction of rainforests. Try to walk or cycle to work or school instead of driving

32. Recycling… Did you know that 80% of household waste is actually recyclable ? Clothes, shoes, old books, phones, paper, toys and more can all help rainforests around the world if recycled
