5. What is WACE? How does my child achieve WACE in Years 11 and 12 at Leeming Senior High School? (By 2014 all year 12 students will leave schools with a minimum of a 55+ ATAR and / or a Certificate II)

WACE requirements 2012 and beyond Breadth and depth complete a minimum of 20 course units or the equivalent the 20 course units must include: - four course units from English, Literature and/or English as an Additional Language/Dialect, studied during Year 11 and Year 12 (at least two units completed in Year 12) - one pair of course units from each of List A (arts/languages/social sciences) and List B (mathematics/science/technology) completed in Year 12

10. Examinations 2012 and beyond Compulsory at Stage 2 and 3 (unless exempt). Students may apply for exemption if they are enrolled in three or fewer stage 2 or 3 pairs of units and are enrolled to complete at least 220 nominal hours of VET (IN YEAR 12 IN 2014) leading to the completion of a qualification or approved skill set. NOTE: Students requiring an ATAR must sit exams

There are two types of special provisions for the WACE examinations: –Special examination arrangements for candidates who have a temporary or permanent disability that could disadvantage them. Application is made prior to the examinations (through the school psychologist at Leeming SHS).

Examinations 2012 and beyond Sickness/misadventure provisions for candidates who suffer from a temporary sickness, non-permanent disability or unforeseen event close to or during the examinations. Application is made immediately after the examinations (through the Upper School Deputy Principal at Leeming Senior High School).

33. ATAR TISC will assign a ranking (ATAR) based on the student score (TEA – Tertiary Entrance Aggregate) The TEA is the sum of the best four final scaled scores TEA will be a combination of 50/50 school and external exam results TEA can be accumulated over 5 years for all public universities

Year 10 into Year 11 Counselling Sessions Will take place in Term 3 Week 2 on either Tuesday 31st July or Wednesday 1st August 2012 between 7.30am and 6pm To be the most productive, it is very important that you: 1.attend the Parent Information Evening (you have done this) 2.familiarise yourself with the various materials offered in the “Parent Information Package – Part 1” 3.familiarise yourself with the Leeming SHS Senior Directory 2013 4.complete (with your child) the “Year 10 Exploration for Year 11 Course Selection – Part 2” document and bring this to your counselling session 5.attend the Careers Expo Evening on July 4 th for useful career pathway information 6.complete (with your child) the 2013 Subject Selection Form to the best of your ability at the counselling session Book a counselling session tonight or please contact the school administration (as of Thursday 14 th June) on 9310 1300 to book an appropriate course counselling time for both you and your child. Counselling sessions involving both you and your child are essential.
