2. WHAT IS ALZHEIMER'S?  Alzheimer's disease is a physical disease which attacks the brain resulting in impaired memory, thinking and behaviour.

3. WHAT ARE THE EARLY SYMPTOMS OF ALZHEIMER'S? In the earlier symptoms:  Memory loss that disrupts daily life  Challenges in planning or solving problems  Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home or at work  Confusion with time or place  New problems with words in speaking or writing  Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps  Changes in mood and personality

4. WHAT ARE THE LATER SYMPTOMS OF ALZHEIMER'S? In the later symptoms:  Inability to communicate with or recognize other people  Inability to walk  Difficulty swallowing  Inability to smile

5. These two brains show the difference between a normal brain and a brain with Alzheimer's.

6. WHAT ARE THE TREATMENTS FOR ALZHEIMER'S?  At the moment, there is no cure for Alzheimer's Disease. For some people in the early or middle stages of Alzheimer's Disease, certain medications can keep the symptoms from getting worse for a limited time. Other medications may help control behavioural symptoms such as sleeplessness, wandering, anxiety and depression.

7. WHAT ARE THE LIKELY PROGNOSIS FOR ALZHEIMER'S?  Alzheimer's is a progressive disease. A person with Alzheimer’s disease lives an average of eight years and as many as 20 years or more from the beginning of symptoms. The most common cause of death for persons with Alzheimer's disease is infection.
