BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION Involves the systemattic application of learning principles to modify, or change a person’s behaviour A behavioural contract involves negotiating a set of rewards and punishments which are conditional on performing certain behaviour. 1Define problem behaviour in specific terms 2Establish BASELINE DATA upon which observable behavioural change can be measured 3Identify the factors that are currently maintaining the inappropriate behaviour 4System of reinforcement is developed and administered to eliminate the inappropriate behaviour and increase the likelihood of the alternative behaviour Using the steps shown above identify a behaviour you would like to change in another person and outline how you would go about changing it.

TOKEN ECONOMY An individual receives tokens for appropriate behaviour and these tokens can be then exchanged for more tangible rewards. Behavioural contracts arose from experience with Token Economies.

SHAPING Shaping is when a reinforcer is given for any response that ultimately leads to the target behaviour. Animals are rewarded for appropriate behaviours, initially on a schedule of continuous reinforcement, and later on a variable ratio scale, with an emphasis on stimulus discrimination in relation to commands or objects that need detection. Animals can be trained for A)homeD)Care of paraplegics B)ZooE)Search and Rescue C)Guide dogs L.A. 10.23 Shaping Scenario 2 p502
