Lung function laboratory Test in excess of 7000 patients/year. –Simple spirometry – Complex measures of gas exchange and cardiopulmonary exercise tests. –6.5 EFT perform these tests plus other duties – eg research and development. –All the staff come from a physiology/ Medical physics background.

Common Respiratory Function Tests Ventilatory function Lung volume estimations: gas dilution body plethysmography Gas transfer (TLCO) Blood gas analysis Bronchial provocation challenge: Methacholine, Histamine, Exercise, Hyperosmolar (saline) Lung mechanics: compliance, conductance Ventilatory responses to hypoxia and hypercapnia Cardio-pulmonary exercise testing
