The Cottage as a symbol of Marnie On page 15 Marnie is introduced to the cottage which is “neglected and half-destroyed.” How is this description like Marnie? What has happened to Marnie that would allow you to form a link between the two? “with growing apprehension she walked in.” How does this quote about the cottage and her reaction to it, link to something else happening in this chapter?

In groups skim read the chapters given to you AND write down any quotes that you find For each quote you find: make a note on how it relates to Marnie (how she is feeling/what she is thinking) OR something that has happened to her recently (within chapter) OR will happen to her soon (within next few chapters - foreshadowing) Hand in findings at end of period (if your notes for your group are not up to standard it will effect the rest of the class as they are going to get a copy of your notes) This is a good technique to learn about for creative writing…
