The theme of this poem if the grief Hugo feels after the death of his daughter, Leopoldine. Leopoldine Hugo (1824-1843) died in a boat accident with her husband while 3 months pregnant.
3
Depressed, sad, lost. All he could do was visit her grave. He was depressed when he wrote Tomorrow, At Dawn.
4
Hugo wrote Tomorrow, At Dawn to “show” his grief, and have others who read the poem feel his grief. The fact that he expresses his thoughts and feelings openly is what makes this a romantic poem.
5
Hugo speaks to a person, telling him/her, he’s going on a long trip in order to meet him/her. Hugo says he cant’s remain long from him/her. The last twos verses reveal it to be his daughter, Leopoldine.
6
We enjoyed the poem. It has a nice rhythm and the theme and the idea was unknown until the end, which made it even better.
7
How do you feel you would cope with a grief such as the one Hugo feels? Would you write? Why or why not?
