Algebra II Honors—Day 4
2
Goals for Today Check Homework – Turn in Parent Contact Info with signatures if not already done – Show me your homework to get a homework stamp – Go over questions from homework Essential Questions – New material In-class practice to turn in Homework Assignment—Handout
3
Warmup problems—work in your notes while I check homework 1. Calculate the area of this triangle. Give appropriate units. BE CAREFUL! 2.Discuss the slope and y-intercept of the line described by this situation. How would you calibrate the axes? A human baby is approximately 20 inches long at birth. For the first 6 months of life, it grows about 0.8 inches per month. 1 ft. 22 in.

Homework Questions??
5
Essential Questions How do I solve linear equations and graph them?
6
Notes Forms of linear equations – Standard Form—definitely need to know – Slope-Intercept Form—definitely need to know – Point-Slope Form—good to know but not absolutely essential.
7
Standard Form A, B, and C are integers. They have no common factors. A and B cannot both be 0. A is non-negative.
8
Examples Standard FormNOT Standard Form
9
Slope-Intercept Form y is isolated (by itself) on the left of the equation. m is the numerical slope (might be integer, usually rational although it could be irrational like a radical) b is the y-intercept
10
Converting from one form to another Linear equations can be changed from one form to another for particular applications. See Handout for examples.
11
Solving for x- and y-intercepts To find the x-intercept of a linear equation, plug in y=0 and find the value of x. To find the y-intercept of a linear equation, plug in x=0 and find the value of y.
12
Graphing Linear Equations Easy to do if you know the intercepts OR if you know the y-intercept and the slope.
13
Practice Slope-Intercept Form/Standard Form Worksheet—Turn in at the end of the period Homework sheet--#1 and #2 together in class
14
Homework Handout—How do I graph a Linear Function? Please attempt these problems – 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 – Fill in all four parts for each equation— Verbal, Equation, Table, and Graph
