Everything on Earth, whether it is living or nonliving, is matter. Matter is all around you.

The 5 Senses and Matter You can see matter. You can touch matter. You can smell matter. You can hear matter. You can taste matter.

Scientists say that matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.

What is Matter Made of? All matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms. Atoms are so small that a special kind of microscope is needed to see them. How the atoms are arranged and how they move determines what the matter looks like and what form it is.

What are Atoms? Atoms are building blocks of matter that make up objects. There are about 90 kinds of atoms.

What are Atoms Made Of? Atoms are made of: Protons (positive) Neutrons (no charge) Electrons (negative)
