Symbols- what do they mean? Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs…

Symbols A symbol is anything that represents something else. o However, for the symbol to be effective, members of a society must agree on its meaning. o Can be gestures, physical objects, words or events. Interactionists focus on how symbols are used during interactions. o This is known as symbolic interaction.

Design Your Own Write out a list of 5-10 words/objects that you feel are representative of you. From this list, choose a few to mold into a symbol of you. You are creating a symbol that represents you. The symbol should have meaning and not be confused with other popular symbols. On the back of your symbol, you need to write a one paragraph (4-6 sentences) explanation of how the different components represent you. KEEP IT APPROPRIATE!!! Remember, it might elicit a few laughs now, but no one will be laughing when you stay after school…
