Jesus Cast out Demons Last lesson we saw how Jesus Christ has authority to cast out demons, and today we speak about His authority to raise the dead. The Lord Jesus Christ was in a town called Capernaum.
4
Jesus Healed the Slave He spent a night there and He healed the slave of the Roman Captain. On the second day, He went to a town called Nain, where He was followed by a crowd who sought His blessings and to be healed.
5
Jesus Healed the Sick The Lord stretched His hand and blessed them all and He healed those who were sick. Then the Lord saw a great crowd gathering at the entrance of the town, so He sent some of his disciples to see what was going on.
6
A Funeral Procession As they drew near the gathering, loud cries were heard and they noticed that everyone was dressed in black and sad. At this moment, they realized that it was a funeral procession.
7
A Son of a Widow The disciples asked people in the crowd several questions to find out more about the situation. They asked about whom the funeral was for and if that person had any alive relatives. They found out that he was a son of a widow and that he was her only child.
8
Disciples Asked Jesus to Help The disciples were saddened by the matter and felt sorry for his now lonely mother. Then they looked at each other and realized that Christ could raise this young man from the death if He chooses. They ran to Christ and told Him all that they found out and asked Him to help this family out.
9
Christ Agreed Christ agreed and followed them to the tomb of where they were going to bury this young man. When He approached the procession, He ordered the men carrying the coffin to stop.
10
Mother is Weeping The Lord then asked, “where is his mother?” and so they told Him where she was. The Lord walked over to the woman and saw how hard she was weeping. Moved by compassion and pity for her, Christ told her, “Do not cry”.
11
Jesus Comforted the Mother The woman said, “He is my only son. He is my supporter. His father died. He left me alone. I do not have any other sons”. The Lord said to her, “Do not weep…You will see the glory of God. I will bring your son back to life”. At that exact moment, the woman became comforted and dried up her tears because she believed in Christ and she had faith in His words.
12
Jesus Raise the Dead The Lord drew near to the coffin, touched it and said, “Young man, get up, I tell you” There was a movement in the coffin. The dead man raised the covering and the shroud and he sat up.
13
Crowd was Amazed The women rejoiced and the men shouted, “Glory be to you Lord Christ. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.” The mother bowed down before Christ, raised her hands and thanked God, then kissed Christ’s hands. Then she kissed Christ’s feet. The crowd was still shocked and amazed and continued to praise the Lord.
14
Conclusions Christ comes in the suitable time to solve our problems. The distance between the dead young man and the tomb was very short. Christ came to the town gate in the suitable time to raise the dead man.
15
Application When you have a problem ask for the help of Jesus. In him the sadden finds comfort, the upset finds peace, and the hopeless finds faith.
