Overall Strategy Our report to the curriculum reform working groups will include four key elements: – Description of competencies pertinent to clinical and translational science (CTS) already addressed by SOM – Additional competencies addressed by other medical schools (with CTSA awards) and documents (e.g. AAMC-HHMI report) – Description of potential electives that could be offered to medical students – Identification of need for, and recommended structure of, a formal CTS mentoring program for students

Initial Feedback from GME Program Directors (n=3) Potential interest in 4 th year student experience in clinical research Students could potentially conduct database research, assist with an ongoing trial, assist with systematic review, help craft a new research idea, author a case report, etc. Would require “umbrella” IRB approval Potential to involve residents and fellows as teachers Require CITI course on protection of Human Subjects prior to arrival
