EAB’s Mandate l The IEEE Educational Activities Board (EAB) shall: l Recommend to the Board of Directors policies on educational matters l Implement programs specifically intended to serve and benefit IEEE members in educational pursuits l And the engineering and scientific community, and the general public l Be the IEEE interface in education-related matters with external bodies l Be responsible for administration of the annual assessment paid to ABET, Inc.

Educational Activities Department l Overview l A total of 20 positions make up EAD l 3 new positions were approved for 2008 l 5 unexpected vacancies occurred at the conclusion of 2007 l We have filled 7 open positions during 2008

Educational Activities Highlights in 2008 (1) l A promotional CD for EA l A Body of Knowledge for biometrics certification l A policy paper on the role of technical standards in engineering education l Tutorials for school counselors and teachers

Educational Activities Highlights in 2008 (2) l The WIE magazine won a 2008 APEX award for publication excellence l Technical webinars l New business model for IEEE Expert Now l Standards Education tutorials l Approval of a new position to support our growing Women In Engineering programs in 2009

Educational Activities Highlights in 2008 (3) l Development of an on-line continuing education portal for IEEE l A declaration was signed by 27 representatives from 7 countries to establish a new accrediting body for programs in engineering and technology entitled, The Caribbean Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology (CACET) l Approval of additional funding in 2009 to invest in expanding IEEE Expert Now
