2 Who is WIE IEEE Women in Engineering is one of four recognized Affinity Groups Governed by WIEC-a 10 member committee, voting members are Chair plus 6 members and 3 one year appointments-EAB, RAB, TAB Regional Coordinators-non-voting Society Representatives-non-voting IEEE Bylaw 1-306.22.1-306.22

3 What is WIE all About WIE Scopes of Interest Scope 1: Facilitate the development of programs and activities that promote the entry into and retention of women in engineering programs. Scope 2: Promote IEEE membership and retention of IEEE women members. Scope 3: Enhance the career advancement of women in the profession.

4 What is WIE All about-con’t RECOGNIZES women's outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics engineering through IEEE Awards nominations.IEEE Awards ORGANIZES receptions at major technical conferences to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE. ADVOCATES women in leadership roles in IEEE governance and career advancement for women in the profession. PROVIDES assistance with the formation of new WIE Affinity Groups and supports ongoing activities. WIE Affinity Groups PROMOTES IEEE Member Grade advancement for women to the grades of Senior Member and Fellow. FACILITATES the development of programs and activities that promote the entry into and retention of women in engineering programs. ADMINISTERS the IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program to mentor young women in junior and high schools.(STAR) Program

6 Where are WIE groups across Region 7 6 WIE Affinity Groups Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Alberta, Hamilton 6 Student WIE Branches University of Toronto, Red River College (Winnipeg), Carleton University, Dalhousie University, Ottawa, University of BC

7 Why does IEEE need WIE Women are under represented in the IEEE engineering fields There is a need to increase participation of women in IEEE We would like to address ways to improve the climate for women in IEEE and the workplace Meet the needs of ever changing membership—work life balance is an issue of importance to all members

8 How can WIE work with GOLD and Student Branches? Affinity groups mentor student groups Affinity groups can work together with SB’s to partner on events & activities AG’s should welcome SG’s members to continue their IEEE career with WIE or GOLD upon graduation AG EC positions are a next step towards personal & professional development
