IEEE 802.15-05-425/r0 Submission July, 2005 Slide 2 Hiroyo Ogawa, NICT Proposal of Introducing “ IF-mmW Non-regenerative repeater mode ” into15.3c PHY

IEEE 802.15-05-425/r0 Submission July, 2005 Slide 3 Hiroyo Ogawa, NICT IF-mmW non-regenerative repeater application mmW non-regenerative repeater application for broadcast video is recognized as of importance in Japan ( ARIB-Std.-T69) 15.3c PHY should support not only digital base band transmission application but also “IF-mmW non- regenerative repeater” application

IEEE 802.15-05-425/r0 Submission July, 2005 Slide 4 Hiroyo Ogawa, NICT IF-mmW Non-regenerative repeater mode & frequency allocation model under Japanese radio regulation mmW DEV is required to support “802.15.3-MAC based data transmission mode” and “IF-mmW Non-regenerative repeater mode” Maximum available band for a mmW DEV (2.5 GHz in Japan) is divided into 5 mode-selectable sub-band (500 MHz) Which mode to be used is selectable for every sub-band Example of requirement policy under Japanese radio regulation

IEEE 802.15-05-425/r0 Submission July, 2005 Slide 5 Hiroyo Ogawa, NICT Example of PHY architecture for mmW DEV Number of PHY boards corresponds to number of mode-selectable sub-bands used by DEV

IEEE 802.15-05-425/r0 Submission July, 2005 Slide 6 Hiroyo Ogawa, NICT Millimeter-Wave Self-heterodyne Technique suitable for non-regenerative repeater Low-cost mmW LO is available at Tx. and no LO is required at Rx. ---> Drastic cost reduction of mmW RF front-end Frequency offset and phase noise are completely cancelled out ---> Extremely frequency stable transmission (Maybe non-regenerative channel quite sensitive to frequency offset is included.)

IEEE 802.15-05-425/r0 Submission July, 2005 Slide 7 Hiroyo Ogawa, NICT Summary IF-mmW non-regenerative repeater application for broadcast video is important for 15.3c WPAN Proposed to introduce “ Non-regenerative repeater mode ” as well as “ 802.15.3-MAC based data transmission mode ” into 15.3c PHY Which mode to be used is selectable for every sub-band and example frequency allocation plan was shown under Japanese regulation Low-cost mmW-RF front-end technique based on Self-heterodyne detection is introduced again
