2 Standards  State Standard 2A 1 b-Classify literary works as fiction or nonfiction.  State Standard 2A 1c-Describe differences between prose and poetry.  State Standard 2 A 1a-Identify the literary elements of theme, setting, plot and character within literary works.  State Standard 1C 1b-Identify important themes and topics.  State Standard 5a1b-Locate information using a variety of resources  State Standard 2b 1c-Relate character, setting and plot to real- life situations.

4 Task  Get into groups of 3 and venture into the world of Dr. Seuss  Then use the websites provided to answer the questions in the previous slides in order to gain knowledge for your own Dr. Seuss presentation.  You will then present your information to the class.

5 Process  There are six questions. Each student will answer two questions each.  Then you will bring your questions together and create a poster presentation based on the answers you gathered.  After every group is done you will then present your finished product to the class.

6 Questions 1. Is Dr. Seuss considered fiction or non fiction? What makes a work of fiction? 2. Would you consider Dr. Seuss poetry? 3. What is the book “ Green Eggs and Ham” about? (theme, setting, plot) 4. What is a common theme in Dr. Seuss books? 5. Who is Dr. Seuss? 6. How do you think Dr. Seuss’ books relate to your life?

9 Evaluation  Students will be evaluated on their ability to answer the questions properly, their creativity, cooperation, and their ability to present the information smoothly and enthusiastically.

10 References for Further Study  Attend Seussical : The Musical  Watch the television special “ In search of Dr. Seuss”  Go to your local library and pick out a book by Dr. Seuss.  Go see the movie “The Lorax” currently in theaters.
