Ralph  Thought of as a good leader, but...  Not a quick decision maker  Popular, but...  Not too bright  Uses Piggy indifferently  Wants to be friends with Jack  Poorly handles the first challenge to his leadership  “There is no beastie!”, (pgs. 36-37)  Uses Piggy disrespectfully  “If I say anything,’ cried Piggy, with bitter realism, ’you say shut up; but if Jack or Maurice or Simon – ‘“ (pg. 43)

6. Roger  “Slight furtive boy”  Keeps to himself with an “inner intensity of avoidance and secrecy”  mysterious, and possibly sneaky  Makes the suggestion for a vote  Knowledgeable (only one who knows how to make fire)  “’You make a bow and spin the arrow,’ said Roger” (pg. 42)

7. Sam and Eric  Good-natured and energetic  Identical twins  Smarter than expected  “Now the twins, with unsuspected intelligence.
