3 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Class of 2015 English – 4 Credits – English 9, English 10, English 11, and English 12 Math – 4 Credits – Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Math/ Math Related Class Senior Year Science – 3 Credits – Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Social Studies – 3 Credits – World History/Geography, US History/ Geography, Government (Civics), and Economics Visual, Performing, or Applied Arts – 1 Credit Health -.5 Credit Physical Education -.5 Credit On-Line Experience – Integrated **21 CREDITS REQUIRED TO GRADUATE**

4 Personal Curriculum  Opportunity provided by the State of Michigan to alter the Michigan Merit Curriculum and Bullock Creek graduation requirements  Individual for each student  Requested by Parent

5 Valedictorian & Salutatorian  1 Valedictorian and 1 Salutatorian per graduating class  In the event that there are ties based on GPA, the Tri-Valley Conference All Academic Scoring (formula of GPA combined formula of GPA combined with ACT score) will be used  Formula determines Graduation Speakers, TV-5 Best and Brightest, and Tri-Valley Conference All Academic

7 Michigan Merit Exam  March 4, 5, and 6, 2014  3 Components: ACT Plus Writing; WorkKeys; and Michigan Math, Science, and Social Studies  Required for graduation  Study materials available in Career Center or visit www.actstudent.org www.actstudent.org

8 Transcripts  Parchment Service  Requesting transcripts electronically  Students create their own account at: www.parchment.com  Currently a free service

11 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)  Students must apply to NCAA Clearinghouse to determine if they are academically eligible to participate in college sports  Recommendation to apply on line during spring of junior year  www.eligibilitycenter.org

12 Off-Campus Opportunities  Minimum 2.0 GPA or test scores…depends on program  New criteria for dual enrollment  Excellent attendance  No disciplinary issues  Provide own transportation  Permission Slip and Contract

13 Agriscience  Offered at Coleman High School  Students explore and prepare for careers and college programs in agriscience and natural resources  2 year program  2 hour block  Articulated college credits available

14 Chemical Processing Tech  Offered at Delta College  Learn to control equipment and systems that process chemical substances into industrial or consumer products  Classes offered at Delta College  Summer Internship opportunities  Credits can lead to an Associates Degree or transfer to a 4-year university

15 Health tech 1 & 2 HCT1 Offered at Midland High School For students interested in a career in a health related field Students must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in Physiology HCT2 Offered through Delta College

16 Shared Time & Online Classes  Classes offered at Midland Public Schools, Coleman High School, and Meridian High School  Video Production, Health Care Technology, Automotive, Foreign Language, and many more  Based on availability and meeting scheduling needs

17 Dual Enrollment  Opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school  New criteria for eligibility…uses ACT Plan or ACT Scores  Classes offered at Delta, SVSU, CMU, Northwood, Davenport, and Mid-Michigan Community College, and beyond

18 Summer Opportunities  Multiple opportunities for Summer Camps  Listen to Announcements or read them on BC website  Check out the Career Center for additional opportunities

19 Career Center  ACT/SAT Information  College Information – view books/applications  On-site visitations by recruiters - colleges, technical schools, military  Contact admissions office for college visits  Scholarship applications  Transcript requests  KeyTrain Online

20 KEYTRAIN  Computer-based training system  Designed to assess all the skills measured in the WorkKeys ACT  WorkKeys ACT is a part of the MME and is a job skills assessment system measuring real- world skills.  Three assessments: Reading For Information, Applied Math, Locating Information  KeyTrain Login information

22 Job Shadowing Opportunities  Complete the application  Students research their career using Career Cruising  Job Shadowing placements are arranged  This is a school-related program – school- related absence

23 Midland County Career Showcase Midland County Career Showcase  Over 50 businesses participate  Businesses showcase their career opportunities  All Midland County Students & Parents will be invited

24 Employment Employment  Cover Letters  Resumes  Applications  Interviewing Skills

25 Work Permits  14, 15, 16, 17 year olds need one  Available in the Career Center  Summer vacation – see Main Office

26 Work Based Learning Work Based Learning  Senior Program  Must have a specific number of credits entering senior year  Create a Portfolio – Cover Letter, Resume, Letter of Recommendation, Transcript, Certificates, Awards  Complete an application  Packet of information/handbook available  This is a pass/fail program. Credit (CR) is received towards graduation if successfully completed. Students WILL NOT receive a letter grade, which may affect their class standing
