IMPACT Robert was important because of his exploration of the Mississippi River in North America. He wanted to find wealth. He claimed the Mississippi River Basin, which he called the Louisiana territory, for France.

Birthday He was Born November 21, 1643, in St. Herbland Parish, Rouen, France.

Sponsor He sailed for France. He was the first European to sail down the Mississippi River

Religion Robert was Catholic. During his young adult years, he was a member of the Jesuit religious order.

Family Robert never got married. He had an older brother named Jean who was a priest.

Death Robert died March 19, 1687. He was assassinated by 3 of his own men in Texas. He was a great man.
