Proverbs 22 Train up – teaching, guidance, correction, examples A child – a youth whose character can be molded before age and experience hardens him In the way – not just any way, but the one particular way laid out in Gods word He should go – a certain moral way of living

Proverbs 22 When he is old – the right way of youth is to be had in old age too He will not depart from it – the right way is deeply engrained in him What is the way that he should go? Is it limited to becoming a Christian and attending church services?

Proverbs 22 Do not live a slave to debt (v. 7) Your sinful actions have consequences (v. 8; Gal. 6:7-8) Be a generous giver (v. 8; Ac. 20:35; 1 Tim. 6:18-19; Heb. 6:10; 13:16; 1 Pet. 4:9) Stay away from contentious people (v. 10; Gal. 5:20; Tit. 3:10-11) Love purity of heart (vv. 11-12; Mt. 5:8)

Proverbs 22 Work hard and dont be lazy (v. 13; 1 Thess. 4:11-12) Avoid sexual immorality (v. 14; Heb. 13:4) Dont act foolishly without purpose (v. 15; 1 Tim. 6:9; 2 Tim. 3:6) Dont use others for personal gain (v. 16; 1 Tim. 6:5; Jas. 2:6; 2 Pet. 2:3)

Proverbs 22 Listen to those who are older and wiser (vv. 17-18; Prov. 1:8; 2:1; 3:1; 4:1; 5:1; 7:1; etc.) Always trust in the Lord and obey him (v. 19; Prov. 3:5; 1 Pet. 1:21) Always seeks words of truth (vv. 20- 21; Lk. 1:3-4; Jn. 17:17; 2 Tim. 3:15- 17; 1 Pet. 3:15; 2 Pet. 1:19-21) Do not rob and despoil others (vv. 22-23; Job 31:16-21)

Proverbs 22 Choose your friends carefully (vv. 24-25; 1 Cor. 15:33; 2 Cor. 6:14-17) Be careful making agreements with others (vv. 26-27; Prov. 6:1-5; 11:15; 17:18; 1 Tim. 5:22) Dont change your parents boundaries (v. 28; Eph. 6:4; 2 Thess. 2:15; 1 Tim. 1:13) Success comes from diligent work (v. 29; Rom. 12:11; Tit. 2:14)
