1 Martin Luther King Dates:(1929-1968) By: Caitlin U

2 Early Years Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. When Martin was 8 he worked as a newspaper boy. Martin has 1 brother and 1 sister. His sister’s name was Christine and his brother’s name was Alfred Daniel. Martin was excepted to Morehouse College at the age of fifteen. He loved to read.

3 Middle Years Martin grew up to be a minister who preached about non-violence and peace in the world. Coretta Scott King was Martin’s wife and his children were, Yolanda, Marty, Dexter and Bernice. Martin L. King was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s succes with non-violent activsm.

4 Why this Person is Famous Martin felt that black people should be able to go to the same places as white people. Martin wanted to fight racism too. 1948-became an ordained minister. 1955-became involved with the Rosa Parks incident. 1964-He received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway. 1968- Dr.king went to Memphis, Tennessee to lead a march in support of the strike.

5 Why I Chose this Person I chose this person because he was peaceful and he believed in freedom in the world. He fought racism and believed in himself that he could do it he never stopped believing and that's why I chose him.

6 Timeline 1957-King forms the Southern Christian leadership Conference to fight segregation and achieve Civil Rights. 1959-Martin visited India to study Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence. 1963-on June 23,MLK leads 125,000 people on a freedom walk in Detroit. 1968-Delivered I’ve Been to the Mountaintop speech. 1986-on November 2, a national holiday is presented in king’s honor.
