Do Now 10/15/09 Take out HW from last night. Text page 99, #8 – 32 evens Text page 99, #8 – 32 evens Copy HW in your planner. Text page 105, #24-34 evens, #38-44 evens Text page 105, #24-34 evens, #38-44 evens Equation QUIZ Monday Equation QUIZ Monday In your journal, solve the following problems. Explain how the first problem is different from the rest.
2
Homework Text page 99, #8 – 32 evens 8) x = 9 10) u = -5 12) x = 35 14) p = 96 16) a = 0 18) r = -38 20) c = 182 22) m = -324 24) 81 = x/16; 1296 yd 26) 30,000 seedlings 28) x = 6 30) g = -7 32) z = -51
3
Objective SWBAT solve equations using decimals
4
Equation- mathematical sentence with an equal sign Like a scale, both sides must be balanced
5
Section 2.7 “Equations with Decimals” Like a scale, the left side and right side must be the same in order to be balanced! Like a scale, the left side and right side must be the same in order to be balanced! + 7.2 = 10.5 Left side Right side x ‘x’ has to be 3.3 in order to make the equation balanced.
6
Solving Addition Equations… m + 4.7 = -18.2 – 4.7 – 4.7 -4.7 m = -22.9 m = -22.9 Isolate the variable! Get ‘m’ by itself. To get the ‘m’ by itself get rid of “adding 4.7” Do the opposite. “Subtract 4.7” Whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do the other side.
7
Solving Subtraction Equations… -2.26 = y – 6.91 -2.26 = y – 6.91 +6.91 +6.91 4.65 = y 4.65 = y Isolate the variable! Get ‘y’ by itself. To get the ‘y’ by itself get rid of “subtracting 6.91” Do the opposite. “Add 6.91” Whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do the other side.
8
Solving a Multiplication Equation -0.6y = -5.1 -0.6y = -5.1 -0.6 -0.6 -0.6 -0.6 y = 8.5 “Undo” multiplication by dividing both sides of the equation
9
Solving a Division Equation j = 1.75 -8 j = 1.75 -8 -8· · -8 j = -14 “Undo” division by multiplying both sides of the equation
10
Guided Practice Notetaking Guide page 35, Checkpoints #1-9 1)-8.7 2) 10.58 3) 16.52 4) -2.05 5) x = 3.8 6) y= -4.7 7) m = -1.9 8) x = -7.2 9) y = 26.04
