Mole Ratios and Chemical Reactions
Virtual Lab

Note Get a copy of the lab sheet for this lab from your teacher or from the class website. Read the procedure of the lab. Then look at the following slides to attain your data for the lab and to record your observations for each station.

Station 1 Step 1: Below is a picture of the copper coil. It has a mass of 5.63 g.

Station 1 Step 2: Below is the beaker used in the lab and its mass.

Station 1 Steps 3 and 4: Below is a picture of the test tube filled with silver nitrate and its mass. (The silver nitrate dissolved in water is shown in the next slide.)

Station 2 Steps 5 and 6: The copper wire is placed in the solution of silver nitrate (shown below) and allowed to react for 24 hours (shown on the next slide.)

Station 3 Step 7: The reaction after 24 hours Side View Top View

Copper remaining after reaction Silver crystals produced in reaction
Station 4 Steps 8, 9, and 10: The copper coil was washed and dried and the silver metal was washed and dried. The dry copper and silver are shown below. Copper remaining after reaction Silver crystals produced in reaction

Station 4 Step 11: The masses of the copper metal and silver metal are shown below.

Due Date You have two days for each day you were absent to complete the lab sheet for this lab. You need to perform all calculations showing all of your work and answer the questions in complete sentences. If you have any questions, see your chemistry teacher for help.
