10
First, you need to set up your computer and eReader. You need to download Adobe Digital Editions. Find the list of Required Software on the left side of the screen.
11
Adobe Digital Editions is free and should work with either PCs or Macs. Your computer will walk you through the installation process.
12
The first time you open Adobe Digital Editions, you need to activate the software with your Adobe ID and password. Click on “get an Adobe ID online” if you do not have one already.
13
If you need to create an Adobe ID and password, go to the Adobe site. Your email address is usually the same as your Adobe ID. Click “Continue” at the bottom of the screen to create your Adobe ID.
14
Once you have created your Adobe ID, enter it in Adobe Digital Editions and click on “Activate.” You are almost ready to go!
15
The first time you plug in your eReader, you should be prompted to Authorize Device. This only needs to be done the first time you plug in your device.
16
Finally, you are ready to browse the collection and check out an eBook!
17
You can search by title, author, or keyword. You can also limit the search to available titles. Check the box that says “Only show titles with copies available.” Leave the search box empty, and click on “Submit.” Now all the titles shown will be available for checkout!
18
All formats (EPUB, PDF, Kindle) are now listed in the interface. Click on “Add to Cart” for the Adobe EPUB or Adobe PDF format of that title. Please be sure to check out the Adobe EPUB or PDF book. Kindle books will not work on your ereader!
19
Proceed to Checkout Log in
20
Confirm Checkout Click on Download
21
Click on Open and Adobe Digital Editions should automatically open. The book should also open.
22
The book will open in Adobe Digital Editions and can be read on your PC. Click on “Library View” to go to your list of books and transfer the title to your eReader. This icon looks like a bookshelf.
23
Connect your eReader to your computer or laptop with the USB cable.
24
Click on the title you would like to transfer to your eReader. Drop and drag it onto the nook (or other eReader) in the Bookshelves area. Your nook (or other eReader) will appear in your list of bookshelves.
25
Safely disconnect or eject your eReader. Your book is now on your eReader!
26
To request a book: Click on Place a Request. See how many patrons are waiting and how many library copies are available.
27
You will be prompted to enter your email address. You have three days (72 hours) from when you are notified by email to return to the website to check out your request.
28
To check out your request when available: Log in to My Digital Account Click on My Requests Select Add to Cart Proceed to Checkout and complete checkout process
29
You can also add titles to a “Wish List.” These are not checked out to you or on request, but it might be nice to have a list of books you want to read in the future. Click on “Add to Wish List” to place the title on your Wish List.
30
Click on “My Wish List” to access your list in “My Digital Account.” You can check out or request the titles directly from the Wish List. Books stay on the Wish List until you remove them.
