The making of a host of stars! FPC Advent 2008
2
Assemble the materials 6 pieces of Paper Scissors Stapler Tape, optional
3
Thank you for participating in our Worship Alive! Advent Celebration project. The 3-dimensional star we have chosen to fill our church during Advent is a little challenging at first, but you will soon get the hang of the process and will enjoy the beautiful end-product. This is a suitable craft for children adept with scissors and who have patience in making crafts.
4
To begin… Fold each of the 6 pieces of paper diagonally in half. Note: If the paper you're using doesn't make a perfect square, cut off the edge that sticks out (the rectangular edge) and make a perfect square.
5
Step two Cut 3 lines each side of the triangle from the folded edge (as indicated on your pattern), making sure not to cut through the unfolded paper edges.
7
Step three Unfold your paper and turn it so that the diamond shape is facing you.
9
Step four Roll the first two innermost paper lines together to form a tube. Staple (or tape) these two corners together.
11
Step five Turn the diamond over to the other side. Roll the second two middle paper lines together to form another tube. Staple (or tape) these two corners together. Note: This will be a larger and wider tube than the first.
13
Step six Again, turn the diamond over to the other side. Roll the outer-most lines together to form a tube. Staple (or tape) these two corners together.
15
Step Seven Repeat this process with the remaining 5 pieces of paper.
16
Step Eight Lay three of the rolled-tubes (or “points”) in front of you and draw the tip of one end on each of the three points together. Pinch them between your fingertips. Staple together using the other hand. Do the other 3 pieces the same way. Note: You will have 2 “fans” consisting of 3 “points".
18
Step Nine Staple the two new “fans” together in the middle. Your star is nearly complete!
20
Step Ten Staple where each of the 6 points meet. By this we mean in the middle of the point. This ensures that the star shape is pulled into place.
22
Well Done! Now that you have finished your star, lay them gently in a bag to return to the church. We will string them throughout the church during the Advent season.
