Wi-Fi is a technology that allows an electronic device to exchange data or connect to the internet. What is Wi-Fi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi

The term Wi-Fi, commercially used at least as early as August 2000, was coined by a brand- consulting firm called Interbrand Corporation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi#History

How to connect to Wi-Fi

Step 1: set up your wireless router Most internet providers now supply wireless routers as standard. When setting up one, it’s important to provide appropriate security so that your computer can’t be entered by anyone but you. http://digitalunite.com/guides/using-internet-0/connecting-internet/how-connect-wifi

Step 2: Check that your computer has a built-in wireless adaptor. Up-to-date laptops generally have one, but most desktop computers don’t. http://digitalunite.com/guides/using-internet-0/connecting-internet/how-connect-wifi

To check whether there’s a built-in adaptor, follow these steps: - 1- Click the Start button. 2- Right click Computer. 3- Click Properties. http://digitalunite.com/guides/using-internet-0/connecting-internet/how-connect-wifi

If there is a Wi-Fi adaptor, a Wi-Fi icon should also appear in the system tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. If you don’t have a wireless adaptor, you’ll need to buy one to plug into one of your computer’s USB ports. http://digitalunite.com/guides/using-internet-0/connecting-internet/how-connect-wifi

Step 3: To connect to a wireless network, click the Wi-Fi icon. http://digitalunite.com/guides/using-internet-0/connecting-internet/how-connect-wifi

Step 4: To connect to a network, just click on its name. If it’s a secure network and it’s the first time you’ve used it, you’ll need a password. If you’ll be using the same connection regularly, you can tick the box to connect automatically. http://digitalunite.com/guides/using-internet-0/connecting-internet/how-connect-wifi

Android : When an Android device is connected to Wi-Fi, an indicator icon appears in the top right of the screen. To check which network your phone is connected to, open your Settings app and tap "Wi-Fi." If you're connected, the network will say "Connected" under its listing. An "On/Off" indicator is next to the Wi-Fi option in the "Settings" menu. http://everydaylife.globalpost.com/tell-smartphone-connected-wifi-21050.html
