Georgia O’ Keeffe 1887-1986 American artist; Modernist painter From the state of Wisconsin 1 st woman honored with her own exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

O’ Keeffe was originally inspired by nature during her childhood in rural Wisconsin. Shunning her artistic education in favor of expressing her emotions, O’ Keeffe enlarged flowers until they became abstract artforms whose sheer size commanded attention.

She became most famous for her paintings of flowers (or parts of flowers) and objects from the deserts of the American southwest.

Georgia’s paintings looked enlarged or zoomed in. This was her viewpoint; how she wanted to show objects – this viewpoint is what made her paintings unique.

HOMEWORK: Since Georgia O’Keeffe was inspired by nature it will be your duty to find something in nature that inspires you. By next art class you are to bring in one object that you found outside in nature. Examples include: Flowers Antlers Rock or stone Leaf Twig or Branch Sea Shell Driftwood Pine cones Small bones
